Lot 1 - Frequently Asked Questions
Does the scope of the Ferry Landside Improvement Plan Grant include repaving parking lots?
No, it is not in the scope or plan of the Ferry Landside Improvement plan grant.
Per the grant: "The improvements will result in a larger and enhanced shoreside ferry plaza promenade area for residents and visitors including an enhanced passenger staging area for processing passengers and bicycles.” Full scope below.
Don’t we need to repave parking lot 1?
Yes we do. This is a complex project and is in the city project pipeline (CIP).
It should be done ecologically, taking into account sea level rise and storm water.
It should stay separate from the Ferry Landside Improvements, as noted in the approved plan.
What about the mature trees in parking lot 1, would they need to be removed?
The tree roots are cracking the asphalt.
With a thoughtful design and the latest technology, we might be able to save some of the trees.
New tree planting should be included.
These issues will require time to address, let's not derail the Ferry Landside project.
Do we have enough money in the budget to repave?
We have $1M in the City Parking Fund that could be used for repaving.
The City has many infrastructure needs, paving Lot 1 should be prioritized accordingly.
Paving in an ecologically sound way would open up options for grant funding.
Repave, yes. And do it right. Don't derail the Ferry Landside Project with massive scope and cost creep, and end up with a half baked paving project.
